To reproduce try this with default settings (or backup and empty the ini).

- open 1.7.14804 64-bit
- drag the broken video file (2GB+) from Explorer to PP
= loading takes 0-1 second, then error message is shown
- drag the potplayer install exe file from Explorer to PP
= loading takes 0-1 second, then error message is shown

- open 1.7.15099 or 1.7.15115 Beta
- drag the broken video file (2GB+) from Explorer to PP
= loading takes 4-5 seconds, then error message is shown
- drag the potplayer install exe file from Explorer to PP
= loading takes 3 seconds, then error message is shown

Tested many times with many files, with default settings and my settings, result is always the same, something is definitely slower in the new version (from 1.7.15099).

In VLC the same video has delay 20+ seconds, in MPC HC it's 1.5 seconds.
With the exe file in VLC it's instant (0 sec.), in MPC HC it's 1.5 seconds.

I tried also with empty txt file, renamed to .avi, here it takes 13 seconds in both versions, always, it VLC and MPC HC it's instant - 0 sec. - why PP can't recognize an empty file?

The Dev cannot confirm.
Always try the latest beta version (x32 only) before continuing a discussion here.

Thanks for the info - what about you - and perhaps the other users?

It's still the same - slow, not fixed in 1.7.15234 Beta.

On my system ~ "loading takes 0-1 second"

I found something. Even if I'm using default settings, LAV filters (LAV splitter) are loaded, always, in 64-bit version LAV tray icon blinks few times very quickly, but in the new beta versions LAV icons is shown-hidden-shown-hidden-shown-hidden so it's shown 3 times.

So it could be the LAV filters, but in 64 bit PP it's fast even with LAV.
In the install folder LAV Filters I have x64 and x86 folders, so both versions are installed.

OK, I downloaded the version 1.7.14804 32-bit and it's slow too - so the 32-bit version is always slow - or it was a silent update? I can wait for the new 64-bit version, or perhaps try the older 32-bit version - do you have any link to older 32 bit version, please? Older than 1.7.14804 32-bit or this version before the first silent update.

I'm using VideoHelp, but I'm blind, thanks.

OK, so 1.7.14902 32-bit is slow too, so it's a 32-bit version issue only. Probably the new 64-bit version will be fast.

Anyway - I still wonder why the 32-bit version is slower. I'm not sure if it's a PP or LAV issue, but why LAV filters are loaded (3x!) in tray if I'm using default settings in PP and I don't use it there?

OK, so probably there is some problem though, still not 100% sure if it's a PP or LAV issue, but it happens only in PP:

To reproduce:

- use default settings in PP (perhaps not needed)
- install the LAV filters
- enable the LAV splitter (white/grey) tray option and make sure it's always visible in taskbar
- open any good video file in PP or VLC or MPC HC
= LAV icon is not visible in tray while starting the video file, start is fast
- open any broken video file in VLC or MPC HC
= LAV icon is not visible in tray while starting the video file (OK)
- open any broken video file in PP 64-bit (any version)
= LAV icon blinks fast in tray while starting the video file
- open any broken video file in PP 32-bit (any version)
= LAV icon is shown 3 times in tray while starting the video file (it's slow, about 3 seconds slower than 64-bit version)

When I tried to open PP install exe file in 32-bit PP version, LAV icon shown just 2 times in tray, so it's about 2 seconds slower as in 64-bit version.

Of course, it's not a big issue, I'm using 64-bit version as my main player, but I still wonder why the 32-bit version is slower in this case.

"or LAV issue"
I asked the dev, he does not know.
